Hudson Valley History and Culture Brim with Early American Flavor

We started more than one revolution right here in the Hudson Valley’s Orange County. George Washington fought the war that won independence for the states in the 1700’s while the Hudson River School of Painting started the first art movement in America in the 1800’s. The environmental movement began in the United States on Storm King Mountain in the 1960’s, preserving the landscape of the Hudson Valley for all time. The huge art movement in the area is organized by the Orange County Arts Council, a vibrant group located on the estate of one of the preeminent Surrealist artists in the world, Kurt Seligmann. Galleries, theaters, and the country’s largest outdoor sculpture park, Storm King Art Center, are complimented by numerous arts events happening in the county all year long.
